Even Pha-ngan was first explored by backpacking hippies a mere twentyfive years ago, Koh Phangan was already inhabited for more than 2000 years ago by sea gypsies originating from the area today called malaysia. The area was a few years later swarmed by Chinese migrants many of them originating from the province Hainan .
